Magnetic Dreaming, is a dark but optimistic operatic Jazz suite by modern jazz ensemble, Triio. Established in 2012 by double bassist Alex Fournier, it is a sextet featuring cinematic compositions that focus on the interplay and mutual influence shared between written music and free/collective improvisation.
This album is widly imaginative, running the gamut of expression, but showing remarkable artistic restraint. It fluidly wanders through composed and improvised elements, while seeking to transport the listener into a novel sonic universe.
Magnetic Dreaming offers an experience that is both ephemeral but sure to leave a lasting imprint on the consciousness. Elastic Recordings & Triio invite you to join us on September 29th, in the Main Hall of The Tranzac Club, to celebrate the release of this momentous album. Details for the show can be found here.
Basalt Pillars and the Field Outside the Ferrimagnetic Order (feat. Alex Fournier, Michael Davidson, Naomi McCarroll-Butler, Bea Labikova, Tom Fleming & Stefan Hegerat), is the 2nd single from Magnetic Dreaming.
This track is a subtle but fierce journey into a sonic landscape lush with texture, and an otherworldy architecture. A wonderfully deranged and witty improvisation soars above the structured chaos, thrilling the senses. Triio is in fine form here, collectively moving together like an oversized synth.
The Dance That Wrought The Faciality Of The Lower Metaphysicians (feat. Alex Fournier, Michael Davidson, Naomi McCarroll-Butler, Bea Labikova, Tom Fleming & Stefan Hegerat) is the 1st single from MagneticDreaming.
This track explores the precipice of Fournier’s compositional exploits, overlooking a steep drop which Triio gracefully and fearlessly teeters and totters on, as if at a playground inside a supernova. It is thrilling as it is stunning at various moments in the narrative.
