Trevor Falls is a drummer and composer living in Toronto and playing with a wide variety of artists. He has had the chance to perform & record with some great musicians & bands including but not limited to Lauren Falls, Tristan Clark, Seamus Blake, Brad Turner, Nir Felder, Dionne Taylor, Kae Sun to name a few.
In 2016 Trevor was accepted into the prestigious Leighton Artist Colony Residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts where he composed music for this latest album.
Released, November 4, 2022, Les Filles is patchwork of smaller pieces that can be listened to individually or as a whole. The record is close to an hour long with 16 shorter tracks and a layout inspired by the hip hop mix tape format, Falls uses this format to compose shorter experimental and improvised instrumental songs.
This striking sonic tapestry walks the line of genre in a way that renders it an unnecessary consideration for appreciating the breadth of its statement. Les Filles invites the listener into a vibrant process that can be experienced as a collection of danceable numbers or as a deep listening adventure. There are many opportunities for multi-perspectival viewing and multi-dimensional auditory wanderings, where we are given a pass into Trevor’s fascinating rhythmic explorations.
The collage-like structure of this record permits wildly imaginative decision making that unfolds with spontaneity and precision, as connections are revealed with surprise and structural rigour.
